Kańczuga

Kańczuga is a small town in the Przeworski county. The first Jews settled in the area at the end of the 16th century, and before World War II Jews accounted for 40% of the town’s population. Today there are no material traces of Kańczuga’s Jewish past except for the synagogue, but its exact location is a matter of dispute.
Seventh and eighth graders from Kańczuga who participated in the School of Dialogue prepared a walking tour of their town. The route included numerous important sites, including a cemetery on the border between Kańczuga and a neighboring town. In preparation of the tour, the students learned many facts about their local history that they had not known before, some of them disturbing.
The walking tour was attended by friends and family members of the students.
The project is documented by a website that features information collected by the participants of the School of Dialogue in preparation for the educational tour.
