The Jewish history in Narew dates back to the very beginning of the town’s existence. Before the war, Jews constituted a large percentage of the town’s population. The story of the community ends with the Nazi occupation, the establishment of the ghetto in September 1942, and then its liquidation in November that year. Students of the local primary school made sure the memory of the Narew Jews was kept alive by organizing a walking tour of Jewish sites on October 10, 2019.

The walk participants listened to the histories of Jewish citizens as they walked along the streets which were once inhabited by them. They stopped at houses once owned by Jewish families and the site of the former synagogue and cheder, which though survived the war and served as a cinema and a reading room, burned down in 1973. The walk ended with the students at the Jewish cemetery, destroyed during the war, but tidied up as part of the student project.
