Sulechów

There are no material traces of Jewish settlement in Sulechów. Even the locations of the now-demolished synagogue and Jewish cemetery are not clear. School of Dialogue participants thus decided to forgo organizing a walking tour and instead focus on commemorating the local Jewish community. They collected the information available online as well as visited the local library and archive, where they found an 18th-century map of the town. Using the map, students were able to establish exact locations of both the synagogue and the Jewish cemetery. They then organized a meeting with the town mayor to convince him to provide funding for information plaques at both sites and met with approval.
They also attended a meeting with the former president of Judaica Foundation, who shared further information. Students decided to write an article for Gazeta Lubuska, a local newspaper, to present their findings related to Sulechów’s Jewish history. Additionally, they created a 3D image of the synagogue in a special app which displays it on phone screens when a device’s camera is pointed at the building’s location.
