Kamień Krajeński

Polish First Army School and Pre-School Complex

Although the Jewish community in Kamień Krajeński was not large, it did have its own synagogue and cemetery. Both sites had unfortunately been destroyed but are commemorated with plaques. The town’s Jewish residents are also commemorated with a plaque at the Christian cemetery. Polish Army school students – freshmen and sophomores – participated in the School of Dialogue program. The Jewish walking tour they organized as part of their project took place on November 15, 2018. At each of the five stops of the tour students presented short genre scenes to help their audience better understand the reality of the local Jewish community as well as its history and culture.

At the end of the tour, students organized a quiz with prizes and treated everyone to snacks they had prepared themselves. Additionally, School of Dialogue participants organized an art contest for fifth graders from their elementary school and made a film about their project. Local media outlets also reported on the activities. Students planned to repeat the tour to reach a wider audience.
