Romuald Traugutt High School students were involved in the School of Dialogue program in Lipno. They scheduled their walking tour for December 3, the first day of Hanukkah in 2018. It was important to the students that their event coincide with this Jewish holiday. The students began with a presentation of traditional Jewish folk dances and a round of Jewish jokes before they went on to explain the significance of both the tour’s date and the Hanukkah holiday in Judaism. Most tour participants joined in the dancing. Next, the large group (consisting of around 130 participants, excluding the organizers) hit the streets of Lipno to learn about its Jewish residents as well as discover topics connected to the culture of Polish Jews.

Except for the so-called New Synagogue, most of the town’s heritage buildings had been destroyed. Although the Jewish cemetery had also been completely destroyed, students were able to find one miraculously intact matzevah. In addition to the walking tour, the group also set up a webpage, a blog and a YouTube channel for their project and created an online guide to local Jewish sites.
