Długosiodło
Tadeusz Kościuszko Primary School
| 2019 |
The project of the School of Dialogue in Długosiodło was carried out by a group of seventh and eighth graders from the Tadeusz Kościuszko Primary School. For some of them this was not the first initiative of this kind, as they had participated in the official unveiling of a monument commemorating the victims of the Holocaust. This made them even more engaged in organizing a commemorative tour for their fellow students, teachers and representatives of the local authorities and institutions. The tour took place on December 5, 2019. The students prepared it on the basis of historical studies (some of them not available in Polish) and accounts and anecdotes of the town’s residents that conveyed the atmosphere of pre-war Długosiodło.
The local council provided the tour participants with a bus to travel to the Jewish cemetery, located 2 km from the town center. Handouts were prepared for those who could not attend the event. The students also motioned for adding the date of October 5 to the calendar of the local commemorative events, to mark the day on which the Nazis expelled all the Jews from Długosiodło, most of whom later died a tragic death.
