Before the war, the Jewish community constituted nearly 40% of Łochów’s population, but almost no one survived the Holocaust. The first grade students from the Maria Sadzewiczowa High School decided to preserve the memory of the Jewish residents of their town. They organized a unique tour of Jewish sites for their peers focused on the local Jewish history. The tour took the form of a bike ride on the Łochów – Jadów – Łochów route (about 11 kilometers each way) and was held on June 12, 2018. During the ride, the students heard stories compiled by the project participants in the course of numerous interviews with witnesses to history.
They were looking at archival photographs and learning about everyday life and activities of Jews in Jadów and Łochów, as well as Jewish culture and tradition in general. A video summarizing the students’ participation in the School of Dialogue initiative, as well as interviews recorded with witnesses to history will keep the memory of the project alive.
