Rabka-Zdrój
Józef Tischner High School No. 2
| 2019 |
Sophomores and juniors from Józef Tischner High School no.2 in Rabka-Zdrój undertook the task of preserving the memory of local Jewish residents. On the last day of September 2019, they organized a Day of Remembrance and an excursion for fellow high schoolers, starting the event with an in-class presentation, which provided a general overview of Jewish Rabka and included archival photographs that painted a picture of what life in the town was like before World War II. Next, the group set out on a tour that focused mostly on wartime years, based on information from the book Mroczne Sekrety Willi Tereska [Grim Secrets of Tereska Mansion] by Grzegorz Moskal, Michał Rapta and Wojciech Tupta.
The guides talked about the Holocaust, providing life stories of a few of the Jewish residents. At each stop, the guides would add their commentary to a source text and present prewar photographs. Organizers had not forgotten to promote their event with printed posters and invitations. Tour participants were also treated to traditional Jewish food.
