The Secondary School Complex in Wolbrom is located right next to the local Jewish cemetery that had miraculously survived World War II intact. No wonder then that the sophomores and juniors from the school decided to do something to preserve the memory of their town’s Jewish residents. To this end, they organized a Jewish walking tour for fellow students, with stops including the main square, the area of the former open ghetto and the site of the synagogue. The tour presented the input of local Jews into the town’s history and growth as well as the tragedies of the Holocaust.
Some lighter topics were also discussed – such as presentations of celebrities with Jewish ties to Wolbrom (among them: Jean-Claude van Damme). Furthermore, project participants prepared a dedicated audioguide, a map and a permanent in-school exhibition. They also promoted their tour through online posts and a movie clip.
