Nowa Sól

"Elektryk" Center for Vocational and Continuing Training

The “Elektryk” Center for Vocational and Continuing Training in Nowa Sól joined the the School of Dialogue program in 2018. The walking tour of Jewish sites organized by them took place on June 13 and attracted over one hundred participants: students, residents of the town, and the surrounding areas, as well as representatives of local authorities, the Municipal Museum, and the media. Representatives of the Żary chapter of the Social and Cultural Association of Jews in Poland were also in attendance. During the nearly three-hour-long walk, the participants visited, among others, a Jewish cemetery destroyed by the communist authorities (where now a town park with a commemorative stone can be found), an off-site camp of the Gross Rosen camp in Nowa Sól, and a former prayer house.

They listened to the history of Jews in Nowa Sól and learned about the Morgenthau family. The walk was completed with a concert of the school orchestra in honor of the Jewish residents of Nowa Sól. During the event, the students also raised the subject of the history of other ethnic and religious minorities contributing to the town’s heritage for centuries.
