Rabka

Narcyz Listkowski - Leader of Dialogue in Rabka Zdrój

A walk through Rabka’s main square in search of traces of Jewish presence is a unique time spent on learning about the history of people whose culture gave our town unique vibe until over seventy years ago. The main square is especially important for Rabka, as it was the heart of the town’s commercial life and right next to it beat the heart of the town’s former Jewish community. The walk introduces tour participants to the lives of Jewish residents of houses around the main square and their – predominantly tragic – fate in World War II.

The beautiful surroundings and archival photographs presented in the course of the tour aim to show how the area had changed. We learn the stories of the buildings that are the last silent witnesses of those times. I finish the walk on the stairs leading to the non-existent synagogue and in the rabbi’s house – inside the building where my own adventure with Jewish Rabka began.
