The March of the Living is a part of an international educational project that takes place in Poland and Israel. The March of the Living is organized since 1988 on the Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah), the date connected with the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Together with over a dozen thousand young Jews from all over the world and young people from thirty Polish schools, we walked for the fifth time from the “Arbeit Macht Frei” gate in the former Nazi German concentration camp Auschwitz I to the grounds of the former Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp, where the main commemoration ceremony took place by the memorial for the victims, near the ruins of gas chambers and crematoria II and III. Six symbolic candles symbolizing six million victims of the Holocaust were lit there. The program included a study visit to the main camps of Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau, which ended in the Jewish Block 27 – in Reflection Centre, where young people read the stories of many prominent figures from the world of science, culture and religion to the most important questions posed after the Holocaust.
