Murowana Goślina

As part of the program led by Forum educators, we discovered the history of pre-war Jewish population in Murowana Goślina and prepared a project to commemorate it. The highlight of the project was a location-based game “Following the footsteps of the Jewish neighbors “. The walk included five stops/sites connected with the history of Goślin Jews: the intersection of Młyńska and Rogozińska Streets, where house of Szmul Glaser, a watchmaker, stood. There, we read an excerpt from the “Dziennik Narodowy” article published in 1847 about a huge fire that completely destroyed Żydowska Street and its synagogue. The students were given a task to change the date of fire according to the Jewish calendar. When going from one spot to another, they marked their foot traces with sidewalk chalk, which symbolized the Jews walking around the town before the war. Then we reached the restaurant and hotel of Alfons Cohn. The next stop was the synagogue – in fact, an empty place after the temple, which first burned in fire in 1847 and later was demolished by the Nazis. Near the synagogue there was a public school, built at the beginning of the 20th century, where Jews, Germans and Poles studied together. The second-to-last stop of our walk was the house of Juliusz Markowicz, the richest Goślin Jew. The last site we visited was the Jewish cemetery.
