For the third time in a row Forum will contribute to Dariusz Popiela’s “People , not Numbers” project dedicated to commemorating local victims of the Holocaust by name, this time in Nowy Targ. In previous years, he has realized similar projects in Krościenko, Grybów, and Czarny Dunajec. The commemoration project of listing each victim by name is made possible thanks to the research of another Leader of Dialogue, Karolina Panz, who is also involved in the project. The project involves building two memorials at the Nowy Targ Jewish cemetery: one featuring the known names of the 2000 victims of the Shoah from Nowy Targ and a tombstone of memory for all those buried in a mass grave. There will also be educational materials next to the cemetery entrance and the two memorials. The work at the cemetery will be preceded with a series of meetings for students of local schools, focusing on the history of their Jewish neighbors.

A select group of students will be further encouraged to join the project, and will be invited for a study visit of the Museum Memorial in Bełżec and to participate in the works at the cemetery. The commemoration ceremony will also include the descendants of the Nowy Targ Jews, who are also contributing to the project’s success.
