Anna Brzyska
Leader of Dialogue in Brzesko
As part of the scholarship for local projects, Anna Brzyska has set herself the goal of commemorating the place of burial of a Jewish family shot in 1944 in the village of Brzeźnica. The scholarship will allow for a memorial to be put in place and organization of activities involving the local community.
The commemoration will mark the grave of parents and two small children who, after hiding for several years in the village of Brzeźnica, were found and shot. Their burial place is located in the forest bordering two villages – Poręba Spytkowska and Brzeźnica. Its exact location was determined using testimonies of witnesses and non-invasive geo-radar research.
Apart from commemoration, the project also has an educational dimension; it will include meetings in schools in Brzeźnica and Poręba Spytkowska with witnesses of history who knew the murdered family, as well as discussions with students about Polish-Jewish relations. These activities will allow creating a space for young people to take care of the memorial site in the future.
The residents of Poręba Spytkowska and Brzeźnica, as well as the descendants of Brzesko Jews, will all be invited to the unveiling ceremony of the memorial. These initiatives aim to raise awareness among the local community about the fate of Jews and other minorities during the war.
Project financed by the Ledor Wador Foundation.
