Dorota Budzińska
Leader of Dialogue from Dąbrowa Białostocka
Dąbrowa Białostocka, a predominantly Jews town before the war, is currently almost void of any traces of its Jewsh past: the synagogue and other important buildings are gone. Currently, the only notable material reminder of the Jewish present is the historical Jeiwsh cemetery. The Jewish past of the town is also not featured on the two monuments and information plaques set up in the town. This is why Dorota Budzińska submitted a plan to create a mural and a plaque that will amend this lack in the townscape. Designed by local residents, the mural will remind the current community of the Jews who onced lived there, while the information plaque will supply, in Polish and English, about the Jewish history of Dąbrowa, the impact of Jews on the town’s development, and important figures.
The project will be conducted by a multigenerational group, including experts and representatives of various demographics. Mark Podwal, an American artist and a descendant of Dąbrowa Jews, will help with the art project, while the group prepares the information and design of the plaque.
Project financed by the Ledor Wador Foundation.
