Szczekociny

Grants and scholarships for Leaders of Dialogue

For the past 15 years, teachers and students of the Szczekociny School Complex, in cooperation with the Szczekociny Jewish Organization in Israel, have been restoring the memory of the Jews who once lived in the town. Their activities have directed the attention of the residents of Szczekociny towards the multicultural past of the town, but there is still an ongoing need to remind, inform, and raise awareness of the loss experienced by the local community. Mirosław Skrzypczyk’s project involves a series of activities commemorating Szczekociny Jews on the 80th anniversary of their Holocaust. The commemorative activities are intended to actively engage the town’s residents and citizens. The plans include placing a plaque on the school building commemorating its former Jewish students, conducting a thematic city game, and developing educational materials in the form of folders distributed to teachers, local schools and libraries.

The project will conclude with a commemoration ceremony on September 20, 2022. The event will be attended by the residents of Szczekociny, including students, teachers, as well as descendants of Szczekociny Jews.

The Leaders of Dialogue program, including grants and scholarships, was financed thanks to the generosity of Friends of the Forum, Ledor Wador Foundation, and individual donors and institutions from Poland and abroad supporting Forum for Dialogue. Scholarships for personal development are possible thanks to The David and Anna Dlugie Kliger Scholarship Fund.
