A ceremony commemorating the Jews of Nowy Targ who perished in the Holocaust took place on November 7, 2021. The names of those 2866 people were read aloud during the ceremony at the town’s Jewish cemetery. The event that also featured an unveiling of a monument listing all those killed was the culmination of the combined efforts of Karolina Panz and Dariusz Popiela, members of the Leaders of Dialogue network, as well as their friend and allies who took part in the cemetery maintenance works, monument design, and archival research. This is yet another success of the “People, not Numbers” project which received funding via the Forum for Dialogue grant and scholarship competition.
You may watch a recording from the ceremony, including a moving speech by Karolina Panz here (in Polish only).
