Early May, Leaders of Dialogue active in the Podkarpacie region – Inga Marczyńska, Jacek Koszczan, Jerzy Dębiec, Magdalena Zykiert, Adam Lorenc and Joanna Potaczek – joined forces to conduct the maintenance works at Jewish cemetery in Nowy Żmigród. The cemetery was founded at the turn of 16th and 17th centuries, there are nearly 600 preserved matzevot here and the oldest one is dated to 1742. The cemetery served as a burial place not only to Nowy Żmigród’s Jewish community, but for communities in Dębowiec, Gorlice, Jasło, and Osiek as well.
Since 2008, Nowy Żmigród Appreciation Society presided by Leader of Dialogue Jerzy Dębiec is responsible for regular maintenance works at the cemetery. The society also installed information plaques and honored the memory of Holocaust victims buried there in a mass grave with a monument.
