Kamil Mrozowicz, member of our Leaders of Dialogue network who grew up in Jedwabne, takes care of his hometown’s Jewish cemetery. In his personal story about memory and oblivion he describes the commemorative ceremonies in Jedwabne: “When I came here for the first time … I wasn’t sure how I was supposed to act so I was hiding behind the lens of my camera. Today, I see my friends from the town who have been coming for the commemorations for years.

Now, they talk less and listen more. You can hear prayers, conversations of friends (when you come here for so many years, you become one big family), and most importantly, names of the murdered Jewish inhabitants of Jedwabne.”

Kamil’s article (in Polish only) is available at OKO.press.

The Leaders of Dialogue program is co-financed by Friends of the Forum, Ledor Wador Foundation and Forum for Dialogue’s private and institutional supporters in Poland.
