Thanks to the efforts of Forum’s Leader of Dialogue, Ireneusz Socha, and Dębica’s Mayor, on July 23rd, 2019, Dębica commemorated the anniversary of the liquidation of the Dębica Ghetto for the fourth time. The people gathered at the ceremony honored the memory of over 500 Jews from Dębica and Pilzno executed and then buried in a mass grave in Wolica Forest in July 1942, as well as those who were deported to the local ghetto and then were murdered in Bełżec and Auschwitz death camps. They also paid tribute to Leokadia and Aleksander Mikołajków, Righteous Among the Nations, who helped save local Jews during the occupation.
The commemorations ended with a concert at Dębica’s synagogue, organized by Ireneusz Socha. To honor the memory of town’s Jewish community, Jewish songs were performed by Mariusz Koluch (singer) and Bartłomiej Prucnal (jazz saxophonist).
