Nowy Sącz

Grants and Scholarships for Leaders of Dialogue

The project involves the construction of a memorial in the center of the old town in Nowy Sącz in the vicinity of the synagogue, on the site of the former ghetto. A monument will be erected according to the project by the Nowy Sącz architect Paweł Kurzeja. The square will be transformed into a special space of remembrance, with its centerpiece sunk into the ground. Below the ground level, almost 2m high walls will be erected bearing the names of the murdered inhabitants. Over 5,000 names of Nowy Sącz Jews will be inscribed on the monument. Special information boards and benches will also be installed.

The project will culminate with a ceremony on August 28, 2022, during which the descendants of Nowy Sącz Jews, along with invited guests from Poland and abroad, and the town’s residents will pay homage to the Jewish inhabitants of Nowy Sącz. The opening of the memorial site will be preceded by a Remembrance Week, which will include a memorial march and cultural events.

The Leaders of Dialogue program, including grants and scholarships, was financed thanks to the generosity of Friends of the Forum, Ledor Wador Foundation, and individual donors and institutions from Poland and abroad supporting Forum for Dialogue. Scholarships for personal development are possible thanks to The David and Anna Dlugie Kliger Scholarship Fund.
