Stowarzyszenie Na Marginesie (A Side Note Asscociation), led by Agnieszka Kraińska, a Leader of Dialogue from Żory, is a local activist group that gathers School of Dialogue alumni who decided to continue their involvement as adults. Their last project, “ Żory’s Identity: Jewish Community and Its Traces in the Region” was aimed at inspiring students of two local schools to rediscover and popularize local Jewish heritage. Supported by local experts in complicated multiethnic and multicultural past of Upper Silesia region, high school students participated in theatre and storytelling workshops, and then deepened their knowledge of Jews and Judaism during the meeting with a representative of Jewish community and a tour of Jewish cemetery. Then, they made use of newly acquired information and skills to re-tell the local Jewish history in a series of podcasts focused on biography of Stefanie Zweig.

Her family owned a hotel in Żory, was forced to flee Nazi Germany and finally sought refuge in Kenya. Students from Żory used Stefanie’s ‘herstory’ as an inspiration and a staple in a multi-faceted narration that brings back the memory of Jews living in town during the difficult times of the eve of World War II. Their podcasts are now available on the regional museum’s website.
