My active interest in Jewish culture and history began the moment I started working as a school teacher. Textbook material about the shared history of Poles and Jews, my students’ questions and stereotypical thinking about the topic first encouraged me to read – I remember Irek Grin’s book Ze złości (“Out of Anger”); then I started sightseeing and pursuing professional training. And this I’ve been doing ever since.

I teach history and social studies; and naturally, my personal interests are in line with my profession. In wintertime, I love to watch good movies and in the summer I love to spend time in my garden.

My activism is always educational in character. Each year, I implement a project with a selected group of school students, consisting of workshops, a visit in the Regional Museum and a field trip to Warsaw or Kraków.

I try to diversify the initiatives – students learn about Jewish history, culture and traditions. While teaching, I expand the curriculum to include Jewish tropes in historical and modern perspectives. I also teach general education classes about Poland’s minorities.

My main aim is for students to gain or expand their knowledge, but also learn the art of asking the right questions, searching for answers and verifying their ways of thinking. It gives me great satisfaction when some students are fascinated by the topic to continue working on it independently. I treat students’ family stories as a sign of trust they have in me.
