    A Community of Changemakers

News 2020

Urszula Antosz-Rekucka, member of the Leaders of Dialogue network, has just launched a website https://www.sztetlmszanadolna.com/en/, playing the role of a virtual museum of the local Jewish community. The website, available in Polish and English, is not only a depository of archival documents and source of knowledge about Polish/Jewish history of Mszana Dolna, but serves as a platform to establish connections with the descendants of the local Jews and those interested in discovering the local Jewish past. The website was published thanks to the Scholarship for Local Activism granted to Urszula Antosz-Rekucka in 2020.

In the recent interview, she shared her 20-year-long experience of commemorating Jewish community of Mszana Dolna, in which Urszula underlines that restoring local Jewish past is a lengthy process: “Initially, it was just a story about emptiness, oblivion, graves, and ruins: we had practically no photos, documents, or testimonies … Today we have several dozen recovered faces of Jews from Mszana Dolna, even more stories about them, most often tragic, but there are also stories of Survivors.”

Scholarships for local activities awarded in 2020 were financed with the support of the Ledor Wador Foundation.
